The personal site "Free Dolphins and Captive Ones" was created in 1997 by
Y.Godefroid, independent journalist, and his son Michaël in order to
obtain the rehabilitation of the two last dolphins of the Zoo of Antwerp,
Iris and Ivo, now deported to Duisburg.
In 2002, its major ambition is to put the so remarkable cognitive
competences of cetaceans in the wild , such as social organization,
development of the brain, language, use of tools, techniques of hunting,
etc. in parallel with the cruel mistreatments thaht Industry of Captivity
is now imposing to them.
For this purpose, this site intends to gather the most complete scientific
documentation concerning these two major aspects of dolphins'life and to
convince general public as well as children that the time has come to put
an end to this stupid and humiliating practice founded by Barnum Circus.
More largely, this site denounces any animal captivity as a serious form
of psychological torture and cultural genocid. For this reason, it claims
for the immediate closure of all zoos, circuses and safari parks on the
whole of the European territory... And of course, it always fights to
obtain the release of our dear dolphins, Iris, Ivo, and of all their
friends.

Le site personnel «Dauphins Libres et Dauphins Captifs» a été créé en 1997 par Y.Godefroid, journaliste
indépendant, afin d’obtenir la réhabilitation des deux derniers dauphins
du Zoo d’Anvers, Iris et Ivo, aujourd’hui déportés à Duisburg.
En 2002, son ambition majeure est de mettre en parallèle les remarquables
compétences cognitives des cétacés libres (organisation sociale,
développement du cerveau, langage, usage d’outils, techniques de chasse,
etc.) avec le mode de vie sensoriellement raréfié et les traitements
cruels que la captivité en bassin leur impose. A cette fin, il entend
réunir la documentation scientifique la plus complète sur ces deux aspects
de la vie des dauphins et convaincre le grand public de la nécessité de
mettre fin à ces spectacles indignes.
Plus largement, ce site dénonce toute captivité animale comme une forme
grave de torture psychologique et réclame à ce titre la fermeture
immédiate des zoos, delphinariums, cirques et safari parcs sur l'ensemble
du territoire européen.
.... Et bien sûr, il se bat toujours pour obtenir la libération des
dauphins Iris et Ivo !
