Animal Friends Croatia (AFC) is a non-profit non governmental organization, established with the goal to promote animal rights, animal welfare and vegetarianism as an ethical, ecologically acceptable and healthy life-style.

Founded in October 2001, the organization currently has over 2,200 members, both in the country and abroad, and over 7,000 supporters. The organization has 14 branches as well as a headquarters in Zagreb. It also maintains three web pages: www.prijatelji-zivotinja.hr, www.MasovnoUbijanje.com and www.vegekit.com

In five years of its activity, AFC has organized over 200 campaigns and demos which have focused on animal suffering in the food industry, laboratories, fur farms, hunting and fishing, the entertainment industry and which have promoted the ethical way of living.

Apart from educating through public demos, information stands, lectures and movie projections, protests, performances and more, the organization has worked on changing relevant bills and legislation.

The organization has been active abroad and has established many successful links and relationships with similar organizations in other countries.

Animal Friends Croatia is a member organization of EVU (European Vegetarian Union), WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) and ECEAE (European Coalition to End Animal Experiments), whilst it very closely collaborates with the biggest animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

The aim of Animal Friends Croatia (AFC) is to put an end to all forms of abuse, torturing and exploitation of animals. In the purpose of realization of this aim, AFC will be active in the following areas:

- Animal breeding and exploitation for nutritional needs of people or other animals
- Animal breeding and exploitation for the fur industry, leather, wool, and silk
- Animal breeding and exploitation in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry
- Animal breeding and exploitation for any kind of experiments, tests and researches
- Animal breeding and torturing in hunting and fishing
- Animal breeding and exploitation in entertaining industry (circus, zoo, aquarium, hippodromes, dog races, etc.)
- Animal breeding, exploitation and torturing of so called 'pets' (dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, parrots and other birds, fishes, turtles etc)
- Animal protection in wilderness and protection and preservation of their natural habitant
- Protection of abandoned animals and providing safe shelters or other places where help and protection will be given to them
- Protection of the animals that people breed, exploit or keep in their property
- Protection of all animals from individual cases of cruelty
- Protection of endangered, exotic and protected species in their natural habitat, as well as protection of these species for the purpose of trade and exploitation
