Ahali African Elephants is the
first non-profit organization working exclusively to provide freedom and companionship for needy captive elephants by establishing endowments for
their long-term care and placement at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald,
Tennessee.
A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Ahali was founded in 2001 by a small
group of individuals brought together by their love for and commitment to
one very special elephant, Flora.
Since Flora's retirement from showbiz, Ahali has provided for her feed,
care and shelter while searching, literally the world over, for a
permanent home where she could live freely in the company of other
elephants.
Flora is the first elephant Ahali has donated to the Sanctuary. Plans are
to continue fundraising to support Flora and other needy elephants.
After eight years of success introducing captive Asian elephants to their
semi-wild environment, The Elephant Sanctuary is expanding their program
to provide a separate habitat for African elephants like Flora.
The Elephant Sanctuary provides a haven for old, sick or needy elephants
in a setting of nearly 3,000 acres of green pastures, old-growth forests,
spring-fed ponds with a heated barn for cold winter nights.
